I also sat in on a meeting with the CFO of the Paul Allen Institute for Brain Sciences. This was founded by the one and only Paul Allen with $100 million of his own dollars. It has blossomed into one of the nations leading research institutes and all of their research is open and free to anyone who wants it! They have isolated and tracked the genes related to autism and schizophrenia and are mapping the brain from it's development in-utero to old age. Very exciting!
Thursday the Majority dropped the health care legislation and since then things have been busy. We have been told to expect to work every Saturday until the bill passes. The strategy is to hold Members in D.C. until they concede to vote (and pass) health care legislation. This should be a very exciting week as the Republicans are featuring how the Democrats takeover of health care will affect women. Watch for the Congresswoman all week!
Thursday, the Whips office launched a Blackberry application which allows you to receive up to the minute updates on floor votes, pending legislation, and Republican position points. To celebrate, they hosted a happy hour for all Republican staff. Awesome! You can visit this link from your blackberry browser to get the app:
Also, as of this week you can sign up to receive text message alerts from Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers! Visit www.mcmorrisrodgers.house.gov to sign up.
Last but not least, I got a job offer! Washington State Senate Committee Services offered me a job as a session policy analyst for the higher education and early learning and K-12 committees. I start on December 14th and will be returning back to Washington in time for Thanksgiving. Now to make the most of my remaining three weeks here!
"How the Democrats takeover of health care will affect women." Congrats on the job - you need to be indoctrinated with some leftist thinking again, so come back to W. WA soon!
ReplyDeleteAlicia, I kind of stumbled upon this blog from your facebook page and found it so interesting to read! I'm so glad you've had an opportunity like this, as I can think of nobody who would have appreciated it more. I remember way back when (over 10 years now, can you believe it??) when you were so into politics and certain of wanting to do something like this with your life when so many of us really didn't have any clue. I am so proud of you and it makes me so happy to see you so committed to your country and yourself, fulfilling those dreams and no doubt working to make the country a great place to live for both yourself and others. I wish you continued success in all you do, and best of luck at your new job. You're truly an inspiration, and a very talented writer - I was hooked! You are so truly a natural leader, but also just a normal, compassionate, and caring girl. Keep it up. One day i'm sure I'll be even more proud to be able to say I knew you once upon a time!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Danielle
Congratulations on the job offer! Your experience in D.C. sounds amazing. Must be learning an incredible amount of information about the inner-workings of public policy. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to hearing/reading about your future endeavors!
